We can't help ourselves: we just love how our craft paper looks on wood! So here is another cute decorative way to use the Carft Paper: Love Blocks- perfect for Valentine's Day!

Love Blocks- Using the January 2022 Paper Craft Kit

Here's what you'll need:

  • SparkleBerry Craft Paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • Foam Brush
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Wood Blocks
  • Jute Twine
  • Sanding block or sand paper
  • Wood Hearts
  • "love is within me" Cut File

Step 1: Painting

Our first step is to sand our wooden blocks to create a smooth surface. Once you give the blocks a good sanding, you can start applying the acrylic paint of your color choice to the blocks. Keep them all the same or do a gradient...the choice is yours!

Tip: We like applying the paint with a foam brush or baby wipes for a more distressed look.

Step 2: Cutting our Craft Paper

Next, we will cut our Craft Paper. We will cover 4 blocks with Craft Paper in addition to decorating the bottom block with a saying that can be cut from Craft Paper. The blocks are easy to cut by hand if you trace the block on the back of the paper.

For the saying and letters, we have included a cut file so you can cut it out on your Silhouette or Cricut machine. Make sure to do a test cut to find the right cut setting for your machine. We recommend using the light cardstock setting to start with.

Step 3: Gluing it together

Once everything is cut out and your paint is dry, it is time to glue the Craft Paper to your blocks! We recommend working one block at a time. Start by spreading a thin layer of mod podge on the first block using your foam brush. Then apply the paper square and add another layer of mod podge. Onto that layer, place the first letter of your word.

Tip: To get the most contrast, you want to use at least 2 different patterns so you can glue opposing patterned letters onto the pattern squares.

Continue these steps until you have decorated the 4 blocks that will spell out love and applied the saying to the bottom block.

Step 4: Finishing touches

If you prefer a more distressed look, you can use your sandpaper to rough up the corners of your blocks.

In addition to our beautiful Craft Paper, we also recommend adding some other embellishments like wrapping some jute twine around a block or two. You can secure it using hot glue if you're worried about it moving or you can just wrap it around the block. We also found some super cute wooden hearts that we are adding to ours.

Now all that is left to do is to find the perfect place to display your creation! Where will yours live?
