Instructions

Pre-heat your heat press to 305 °F while you cut. (EasyPress: 325 °F)

Cutting Patterned HTV

Cutting patterned HTV on your Cricut or Cameo is a little different than cutting solid HTV because it does not have a carrier sheet attached.

Patterned Pro Tips:

  • Cut "Pretty" side up
  • Do not mirror
  • Use the same setting you use for EasyWeed HTV.
  • Cameo Recommended Setting: Heat transfer, smooth | Cricut: Iron-on (Everyday Iron-on)

On your screen, make sure your image is sized to the size that best fits your tree skirt. You can make it as big or small as you want! You will cut 3 mats in total- your red glitter, your green EasyWeed and your SparkleBerry pattern (which is a light green/turquoise color in the file).

To cut your SparkleBerry pattern, lay it "pretty" side up on your mat. Do not mirror your cut.

Remove this sheet from your mat and cut away any unused/uncut parts of the HTV. Then weed your design (removing any parts you do not need- in this case anything besides your tree) like you normally would.

Next, peel the backer off your Medium Tack Mask and place it sticky side up on a firm surface. Place your design onto the sticky side (the pattern will face towards your table and the sticky side) and squeegee the front and the back. Remove the backer from your patterned HTV and throw it away- this is super important or you will apply the beautiful pattern to the backing sheet and not your item!

Now this part is ready to press! But first, let's cut our solid pieces.

Cutting Solid HTV

  • Cut carrier sheet down. (The shiny side)- If you are unsure which side to put down you can carefully peel apart a corner and you will see the clear transfer portion of the vinyl which should be the part sticking to your mat.
  • Mirror cut (because you're cutting from the back of the Htv)
  • Cameo Recommended Setting: Heat transfer, smooth | Cricut: Iron-on for the solid EasyWeed
  • Cameo Recommended Setting: Heat transfer, glitter  Cricut: Iron-on + (Glitter Iron-on) for the glitter EasyWeed

Place your solid HTV carrier sheet down on your mat making sure you are using the correct color for the design you are about to cut.

Cut the other two pieces from your solid HTV and don't forget to mirror! Weed your design and we are ready to put everything together!

Pressing HTV

Preheat your fabric to take the moisture out and to smooth any wrinkles from the fabric. This is just a quick 3-5 second press of the area you want to apply your HTV. Then start with your biggest pieces at the bottom of the design. In our file, this is the solid green which has the offset for our tree and the word "Merry". Place the piece in the desired area on the tree skirt, flipping it so the clear sheet is on top and your design/text looks correct. Cover with a teflon sheet or parchment paper for extra protection. Press using the "quick-tack" method. Quick-tack is a 1-2 second press which is all you need to activate the glue enough to stick to your item. Carefully peel the clear protective sheet off the design. Next, do the same with your red glitter vinyl lining it up with the green layer on the bottom. Again, you only want to give it a 1-2 second quick tack. The longer you press the layers, the higher your chances that they won't line up since HTV shrinks when pressed.

The last layer you will apply is your patterned piece. It is applied just like the solid pieces as it now has a protective carrier sheet. Do another 1-2 second quick tack to apply it before removing the carrier sheet. This time, place your magic mask back on the backing sheet though as you can use it multiple times! Cover your whole design with teflon or parchment paper and press for the remaining 10-15 seconds.

And that's it! You're done with your beautiful tree skirt and all that is left to do is to add it to your tree!
