St Patrick's Day SparkleBerry Shirt using the Vinyl Craft Kit

Here is what you'll need:

Step 1: Setting up your design

Most of you are probably experienced vinyl crafters and can easily do this. But for those who are newer to the process, let's take a moment to talk about setting up your design! The cut file for the Malarkey Manager design for your St Patrick's Day SparkleBerry Shirt is included in your membership and you should have received an email with a link to dropbox to download the file.

Tip: Didn't get the email or can't find it? No worries, just email us at customerservice@sparkleberryink.com and we will get you taken care of.

You do not need to sign up for dropbox to use the files. Instead you will choose the direct download option (it often has an arrow pointing down on a line as a symbol). This will download the cut file as a zip file onto your computer. Once it is downloaded, simply go to your downloads folder. Depending on your device, you may need to unzip the file by right clicking on the file and choosing "extract all" and then designating where you want it to be saved (this can be your downloads folder or a different folder on your computer where you can easily find it). Once the file is unzipped you can pull it into your design program!

Cricut

To upload your file into the Cricut Design Space software, open design space and then select new project. Once you are in the blank project, select upload from the bar on the left. This will give you the option to upload an image (which is what we will choose) or a pattern fill. Click on upload image and then either drag the file into the box or choose browse and select the file (this is why it is so important to remember where you put it!). Make sure to select the svg file from the selection of files! Once you select it, make sure to give it a name that you can find in the future (after all your friends will be begging you for one too).

Once you have uploaded the file, insert it into your design screen. Now the fun starts! You get to decide what color combo you want to use on your design! The picture header for the project is giving you some options but feel free to use your own combo! Don't forget to resize the image to fit your shirt (or hoodie, or bag or whatever you end up putting it on!)

Silhouette

To upload your file into Silhouette Studio, simply open the program and it will open to a blank design screen. From there, go to file at the top left and choose "merge" which will add the file to your existing screen. Then find the file you want to use. You can use the .sil file as well as the .svg file if you have designer edition or above.

Once the file opens, all you need to do is decide what color or pattern you want to cut the design out of! Before cutting, make sure your design is the correct size for your shirt.

Step 2: Prep work and cutting

Now that your design is ready to cut, go ahead and get your press preheating. For our patterned htv and solid htv we recommend you set your heatpress to 305 degrees F (and your EasyPress to 325 degrees).

Unlike solid htv, our patterned htv is cut with the pretty side up. Depending on whether you have decided to cut the design out of solid htv or pattern, follow the appropriate steps below:

Cutting Solid HTV:

  • Cut carrier sheet down. (The shiny side)- Tip: If you are unsure which side to put down you can carefully peel apart a corner and you will see the clear transfer portion of the vinyl which should be the part sticking to your mat.
  • Mirror cut (because you're cutting from the back of the Htv)
  • Cameo Recommended Setting: Heat transfer, smooth | Cricut: Iron-on for the solid EasyWeed
  • Cameo Recommended Setting: Heat transfer, glitter  Cricut: Iron-on + (Glitter Iron-on) for the glitter EasyWeed

Cutting Patterned HTV:

  • Cut "Pretty" side up
  • Do not mirror
  • Use the same setting you use for EasyWeed HTV.
  • Cameo Recommended Setting: Heat transfer, smooth | Cricut: Iron-on (Everyday Iron-on)

After your pieces are cut, take your scissors and cut off the big portion of your material that wasn't cut by your machine so you can save it for later. Then use your weeding tool on the cut part to remove all the pieces that are not part of your design that should go on your shirt.

Your solid htv already has a clear "plasticy" sheet on it that we will use to place the design on your shirt but your patterned htv only has a milky white backer. So we need to add the transfer sheet to it. You should have received a clear medium tack mask transfer sheet in your pack. Simply remove the backer from the medium tack mask and place it sticky side onto your patterned htv (or lay it sticky side up on your mat and flip the patterned htv onto it). Using your squeegee or an old credit/gift card, make sure you rub over everything so the patterned htv will stick to the transfer sheet and you can pull off the milky backer. Once you have done that, all of your pieces should look the same/similar.

Tip: The medium tack mask can be used multiple times so we recommend that you do not cut it and keep the backer so you can stick it back onto the backer.

Step 3: Time to press

Preheat your shirt to take the moisture out and to smooth any wrinkles from the fabric. This is just a quick 3-5 second press of the area you want to apply your HTV to. Then place your design onto your shirt with the plasticky side up and cover with a sheet of parchment paper to protect it. Press your design for the full amount of time if you only have one color. Then remove the plasticky sheet and you are done! If you use the patterned htv, make sure to stick the medium tack mask back on its backer for next time.

Step 4: Show off your creation!

We would love to see what combination you chose to make for your St. Patrick's Day SparkleBerry Shirt! Be sure to share your shirt with us in the SparkleBerry Box Members group or on social media by tagging our accounts!
