Supply List:

  • SparkleBerry Craft Paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic Paint or stain
  • Wood Ornaments/ Tags
  • Twine or ribbon for embellishment

Preparing your ornament

Start by painting or staining the wood ornament with an acrylic paint or stain of your choice. You can do so by using baby wipes as your "paintbrush" or a regular brush depending on the look you want to achieve. Baby wipe painting allows you to create a thin layer that will dry quickly. The thin layer also allows for the natural wood to "peek" through, creating a trendy, distressed, farmhouse look. A wood stain will give it a rustic look and a full coat of paint will create a more modern tag. We recommend painting both sides of the tag and adding some paint to the sides as well. Make sure to let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Add a little....SparkleBerry

Now it is time to add some SparkleBerry paper! Using your scissors, cut out a rectangle as big or as small as you want. You can cover the entire tag or just a portion of it. In this step you can also utilize your cutting machine and cut the paper into a shape like a tree! Apply the paper using Mod Podge. Once applied, seal the paper in by adding a second layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper. In this step you can also add any other embellishments you would like. Some fun additions are bows or small card decorations that can be found at the craft store! If you are going for a more rustic or distressed look, now is the time to use a sanding block and lightly sand the edges of the wood and paper. Make sure your glue is dried before sanding. If you decide to sand, you may want to add an additional layer of Mod Podge to seal in your work.

The finishing touches

Now all that is left to do is to add some twine or ribbon to hand your ornament/tag from! If you decided to go for a farmhouse look, you might prefer the twine and bead look. To create this type of hanger, create a loop using your twine and knot it off. Then add your beads from the looped side. You can thread them on together or create more knots to space them out. If you add more knots, make sure you leave room in the loop to loop it through the tag and thread your beats through the loop to create the hanger. If you are going for a more modern look, you can also use ribbon to create the hanger.
